Married (in Berdichev)…like no other.
Married in Berdichev’s Britney Gould builds boulders with her sound. Her voice shines through textured layer upon mysteriously flailing layer pushing all the way through and at times holding back with powerful firery restraint. A single layer tells a story, like long white gowns covering an army of cave dwelling women, content with their own songs, separately singing, but somehow fitting together. Some are chained, enchanted and drugged, held in cages like birds, masked or blindfolded as they make a long trek toward their own nearing demise.
Subtle bouts of ghostly machinery crawling, bending and scraping among overgrown vegetation, planting seeds for rapid regrowth, building new patches of life left to rid the planet of virus through immediate strength and rest. Sadly, the sudden feminine revival set forth by the machines leaves little heart and no tongue at all. Britney’s ballooning rustic howls and beautiful trance-seething vocality are simultaneously a response to a dying call to stand up to the machines while accepting their presence, kneeling, but secretly, with all her might, never giving into surrender. Give a listen and you will totally get that.
We recommend a listen.
