Married (in Berdichev)…like no other.

Married In Berdichev

Married In Berdichev

Married in Berdichev’s Britney Gould builds boulders with her sound. Her voice shines through textured layer upon mysteriously flailing layer pushing all the way through and at times holding back with powerful firery restraint. A single layer tells a story, like long white gowns covering an army of cave dwelling women, content with their own songs, separately singing, but somehow fitting together. Some are chained, enchanted and drugged, held in cages like birds, masked or blindfolded as they make a long trek toward their own nearing demise.

Subtle bouts of ghostly machinery crawling, bending and scraping among overgrown vegetation, planting seeds for rapid regrowth, building new patches of life left to rid the planet of virus through immediate strength and rest. Sadly, the sudden feminine revival set forth by the machines leaves little heart and no tongue at all. Britney’s ballooning rustic howls and beautiful trance-seething vocality are simultaneously a response to a dying call to stand up to the machines while accepting their presence, kneeling, but secretly, with all her might, never giving into surrender. Give a listen and you will totally get that.

We recommend a listen.

Kindergarten Cop will help you with the trivia.

Here is a bit of Westword showcase 2009 voting trivia: Answer all 12 questions correctly and win an Iuengliss Album download package & a forward thrust from Tom Metz of Iuengliss:

1. 3 out of the 5 bands nominated in the Funk Category actually have the word “funk” in their titles. Can you name them? They must be in correct order.
2. What Death/Grind Metal group is the most approachable? which is the least? which can you whittle with?
3. When he isn’t playing music, Ellison Park is a pilot for which airline? (hint: not delta)
4. True/False? Bad Luck City is also a nickname for Black Hawk.
5. The always amazing Dormir was snubbed in which category?
6. Fill in the blank. Elin Palmer has really hot______________________.
7. Out of all the bands nominated this year, how many of them start with the letter P?
8. Built to Spill, the showcase headliners, formed in which decade? (hint: not this one)
9. In the jazz category, what was John Coltrane’s nickname?
10. 25 bands are nominated in the Indie Rock category. (It seems to me that wouldn’t that then become Rock and Rock would then become something else. When a sub-category becomes more popular than the lead category does that not mean that the sub-category take over said head category..?)
11. True/False? Jam is NOT the same as Improv.

To be eligible to win, you must submit all answers to

Your answers will be handled with care by our trivia department.

The BEATLES white album cover art.

Speaking of the White Album…
I was always curious about this:

The album’s sleeve was designed by Richard Hamilton, a notable pop artist. The artist intended the cover to resemble the “look” of conceptual art, an emerging movement in contemporary art at the time. Hamilton’s design was in stark contrast to Peter Blake’s vivid cover art for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and consisted of a plain white sleeve.

The album’s inside packaging included a poster, the lyrics to the songs, and a set of photographs taken by Richard Avedon during the autumn of 1968 that have themselves become iconic. This is the only sleeve of a Beatles studio album not to show the members of the band on the front.

Much of Hamilton’s work consisted of painting and collage.
